Late Thursday afternoon, a massive crowd lined up to get inside the Charlotte Convention Center to watch President Obama's party nomination acceptance speech.
It was planned as a huge viewing party for many who would not be able to see the president in person at Time Warner Cable Arena.
Organizers canceled the president's outdoor speech at Bank of America Stadium due to concerns about severe weather.
But at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, the weather over the stadium was just fine.
"Some things just can't be helped," said Jael Moses, who was walking around at 8:30 p.m. with Maya Tate as they tried to figure out where they would watch President Obama.
They had planned to go to Bank of America Stadium and weren't credentialed to get into Time Warner Cable Arena.
"Im disappointed, but he's here and it's the atmosphere. It will have to do for now."
"I'm not disappointed," Tate said. "Either way, it's history again."
"I'm part of this crowd," said Fletcher McMillan. "Part of this, period."
By 9:30 p.m., Fletcher McMillan's blood was pumping in anticipation.
"It's like adrenaline," he said. "I'll be honest with you. It's a once in a lifetime for me."
By 10:25 p.m., President Obama was speaking here in Charlotte, accepting his party's nomination and making a case for a second term.
