ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) -- State records show that a York County residential care facility where a 61-year-old man was slashed in the face has been cited for 12 serious health violations in the last five months.
Less than two weeks before Garland Edwards required 42 stitches in his face Oct. 13, Catawba Community Care Home was cited for seven violations that may endanger residents. A June inspection found five major violations related to fire safety.
The facility's owner, Pat Terry, says all of the June issues have been corrected. She called many of this month's citations minor maintenance problems that are being addressed.
Authorities don't expect to file charges against the 70-year-old who cut Edwards, calling it self-defense. Both men have been evicted from the facility.
