MECKLENBURG COUNTY, N.C. – Firefighters and emergency workers have cleared the scene in Cornelius where a gas line was cut earlier Monday evening.
According to officials, the gas line was capped shortly after 9 p.m. Roads which were closed by the leak have re-opened.
As Airstar flew over Catawba Avenue, gas could be seen spewing up from the ground. The situation was so volatile that crews requested that Airstar move away from the scene.
NBC Charlotte crews on the scene said the smell was pungent.
The Charlotte Fire Department sent an alert to media outlets describing the response as a “natural gas line breach”.
It was not immediately clear what caused the gas leak.
