CHARLOTTE N.C. – Three people are searching for a place to stay after a fire destroyed their condos.
The fire happened on Constitution Lane Saturday afternoon. Firefighters worked feverishly for an hour fighting the blaze.
The Charlotte Fire Department tells NewsChannel 36, it took 44 firefighters to completely extinguish the flames.
“The main body of the fire was knocked down in less than 50 minutes; however 50 minutes was the mark to ensure the forward progress of the fire was stopped or controlled,” explained Captain Mark Basnight.
Basnight tells NewsChannel 36, it’s not uncommon for crews to work to extinguish a structure fire for nearly an hour.
“Structure fires can be dynamic in nature and the time taken to control this particular fire isn't unusual when you take in consideration the size, construction, and occupancy type of the structure,” said Basnight.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The Red Cross is assisting the families who were displaced.
