CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A Charlotte family will have to find another place to stay over the weekend after fire destroyed their home.
The fire broke out around noon on Saturday at a house in the Griers Fork neighborhood in southwest Charlotte.
The flames caused a lot of damage. Everyone in the house was able to escape unharmed, but the family's pets were trapped inside.
A neighbor says he tried to save them.
"I heard a lot of screaming, heard the lady screaming, and I ran across the backyard and she was yelling 'my dog, my dog' and the house was on fire. So I opened the back door, but that's as far as I could go. I couldn't get the dog cause there was too much black smoke," said Samuel Garrett.
It took nearly 30 firefighters to get the situation under control. The family is getting help tonight from the Red Cross.
