HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. -- A major milestone was reached on Sunday for a local group that helps people with developmental disabilities.
NBC Charlotte was there for the grand opening celebration of the new McCleskey Apartment Complex in Huntersville.
Each apartment has a bedroom, bathroom, kitchenette, and den. There’s also a community center where residents can get together.
It's all thanks to a group founded by United Methodist Church.
“This community gives us a very good sense of independence and I really enjoy it, I've been able to express myself and come out, and just live a life that we've never lived on our own before,” said Adam Dunnaway.
UMAR operates 24 group homes and nine apartment complexes all across North Carolina.
