CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The heat overwhelmed a 40-year-old mail carrier while she was on her route Thursday afternoon.
She was at the intersection of Arborwood and Timberbrook Drives when she started to feel ill.
She called her parents and then called 911.
Paramedics took her to Carolinas Medical Center where she's being monitored and treated with IV fluids.
A colleague who was nearby continued her route.
Earlier this month the Post Office started a program called "Hydrate a Carrier."
Through the program, a team follows mail carriers, brings them cold drinks and checks on them throughout the day.
