CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Police have arrested a man in connection with a deadly hit-and-run.
The incident happened on Sunday September 23 on West Sugar Creek and I-85. According to detectives John Hazel Evans, 45, was hit in the parking lot of the Circle K. Evans died a week later, Saturday, at CMC Main.
Witnesses told police they saw a grayish or light blue Honda fleeing the scene after Evans was hit. According to authorities, the driver also side-swiped another vehicle in a desperate attempt to get away.
Detectives arrested Stefano Jett, 21. According to police the vehicle involved in the hit and run was found in a pond on Phil O’Neil Drive.
Jett is being charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon, felony hit-and-run, and a slew of other charges.
According to investigators, murder warrants have also been issued for Jett. He’s currently being held in the Mecklenburg County Jail under a $61,000 bond.
