CLEVELAND COUNTY, N.C. –- A man is behind bars after firing at a Cleveland County deputy and engaging officials in a three hour standoff.
The incident happened around 4:30 p.m. Saturday at 28 Raft Place near Boiling Springs. The Cleveland County Sheriff’s department tells NewsChannel 36, they were responding to a domestic call when Steven Randolph was found standing on his front porch with a rifle.
Officials say he refused to drop the weapon and fired a shot at an officer. A second Cleveland County deputy returned fire. No one was injured.
Investigators say the standoff lasted nearly three hours and they had to call in negotiators to assist.
Randolph is being held without bond. He’s charged with assault on a government official and resisting an officer.
Deputies say additional charges are pending.
