CHARLOTTE, N.C.-- Is the nickname "Queen City" too dated for Charlotte if the city hopes to create new jobs?

Maybe it's time to pick something a bit more trendy.

That was just one suggestion made Friday at a summit on how to create new jobs hosted by Charlotte Mayor Anthony Foxx.

While not offering any suggestions for a new nickname, Foxx did say, "We're so much more then a banking city. We have strength in health care, and energy, and so many other sectors."

Governor Bev Perdue head-lined the summit of civic and business leaders who are trying to rebound from the loss of 62,000 jobs in the Charlotte area since the start of the recession.

The Governor said what she hears constantly are questions from potential new business owners about the quality of public education.

"And I would be less then honest with you if I didn't say in North Carolina, just as in America, we got a long way to go," said Perdue.

New jobs come from companies that move here, and by making it attractive for companies that are already here to stay and expand.

Chamber of Commerce President Bob Morgan likened that to a brawl.

"We're competing with the regions around us and they wake up every day and they want to take our jobs away," said Morgan.
