CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The twitter account of Mayor Anthony Foxx has been hacked.
Saturday Foxx tweeted to his nearly 600 followers “having issues with account. If you received a direct message, don’t click on the link. Working to resolve. Sorry for the inconvenience.”
Those messages sent from the Mayor’s account contained a link that asked users for their twitter account password.
Around 5 p.m. on Saturday, it appeared that the issue still existed.
A tweet from @MayorFoxx read “the fastest way to lose body-fat in 2 weeks,” the link attached to the message led to a miracle diet website.
In a phone conversation with NBC Charlotte, Foxx officials said "we're aware of the situation".
