Police: Mother leaves infant in car for 45 minutes on hot day

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Police have arrested a Charlotte woman after she left her 2-month-old baby in the car alone for 45 minutes.

Police found the baby inside the car just before 4 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of the Walmart Super Center on North Tryon Street.

The child was taken to Carolinas Medical Center-University to be checked out.

Officers tell NewsChannel 36 the temperature was 98 degrees outside when the baby was found.

The mother, Starkiya Jones, is being charged with misdemeanor child abuse.
