CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A Florida man fell at least 40 feet at the ACC Championship game Saturday night.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said Sean Michael Powers, 22, is in critical condition after falling from a fourth-level ramp at Bank of America Stadium.
Powers was at the stadium to watch the ACC championship game between Georgia Tech and Florida State.
CMPD said he had just arrived at the stadium and was looking for his seat when he fell.
Powers was walking up a ramp at the stadium at 8:02 p.m., got too close to the edge and fell about four stories onto the grass outside the facility, police said. Authorities said they notified his family about the accident.
Kristen Powers, Sean's mother, told BAY News 9 her son was on his way up to his seat when he stopped to take a picture.
Once he snapped the photo, she says, he slipped over a rail and fell.
CMPD Capt. William Boger said the victim was possibly intoxicated at the time of the fall. “He fell from high enough up where he is pretty messed up,” Boger said.
Medic officials said the man was taken to Carolinas Medical Center-Main, where he was being treated for his injuries.
The fall is apparently the first of its kind from Bank of America Stadium, which opened in 1996.
"Sean is deeply loved, he's fun, loving and his friends truly love him." said Kristen Powers.
Kristen says this accident comes at an already sensitive time for the family.
"They just lost their dad this past February of this year and the brothers are having a very difficult time." Kristin told BAY News 9 before leaving for Charlotte.
