A Charlotte man is facing felony assault charges after he threw a glass bottle that injured an officer's eye during a raid at an Occupy D.C. encampment, according to reports.

Records show the suspect, Jeremiah Daniel DeSousa, 29, is a convicted felon in North Carolina who has absconded from probation here.

On Feb. 4, U.S. Park Police swept through the Occupy encampment in Washington, D.C.'s

McPherson Square, just a few blocks north of the White House, to enforce no-camping rules there and remove tents and bedding, according to the Washington Post.

Eleven people were arrested that day at the encampment, including another man who was charged with assault after he was accused of throwing a bamboo stick at an officer, the Post reports.

Police told the Post that the officer struck with the bottle suffered serious injury to one eye.

He has been released from the hospital, and his vision is improving, police said, but he had not returned to work.

DeSousa was released to a halfway house after a hearing Thursday, according to the Post.

Records show DeSousa was convicted in Connecticut on larceny charges in 2006 and 2007.

Last year, he was convicted on forgery charges in Iredell and Mecklenburg counties.

He has since absconded from probation, according to the N.C. Department of Correction.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police arrested DeSousa last March and charged him with assault on a female, but the charges were later dismissed.
