GASTONIA, N.C. -- Two owners were cited after officials discovered 43 dogs living in what authorities say were unacceptable conditions.
On Thursday officials began investigating a nuisance complaint at 3511 South York Highway -- they found 43 dogs at the home of Denise Colvert and Robert Canipe.
Law enforcement officials reported some of the animals had immediate health issues. Thirty-nine of the dogs were surrendered to Animal Control. Rescue groups are assisting with finding homes for the dogs.
Colvert and Canipe were cited for animal cruelty, failure to vaccinate, and failure to obtain licenses.
Officials said they were cooperating during the investigation and both continue to work with Animal Control to resolve the issue.
