CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- In a statement to NewsChannel 36, Patrick Cannon announced he will not run for the 9th Congressional District. Cannon is a democrat, and Mayor Pro Tem of Charlotte.
"After seeking wise counsel, researching the possibilities, weighing the needs that must be addressed for the citizens of Charlotte, my employees and more importantly the needs of my young family, especially my children whom I need to be at PTA's, band recitals, athletic and character trait events for, my greatest responsibilities belong here instead of running for the 9th Congressional District.
I am honored to have been tapped and encouraged by many from various political parties to make a difference for those constituents that deserve an official that will work vigorously on the issues of health care, the economy, education, and a better quality of life. I look forward to encouraging the people to support and/or vote for the candidate that will best represent good government for those in portions of Iredell, Mecklenburg, and Union counties that need reviving in the 9th Congressional District."
Sincerely,
Patrick D. Cannon
Mayor Pro Tem
City of Charlotte
