Pilot ID'd in deadly Rowan Co. plane crash

SALISBURY, N.C. -- Authorities have identified the pilot that was killed in a plane crash in Rowan County on Sunday.

Cecil Dwayne Brown, 49, was killed when his plane crashed in a wooded area off of Old Stone House Road in Salisbury.

According to officials, an emergency call came in from a witness saying a plane went down around 6 p.m.

"It was awfully close to the treetops, and then his motor cut off," said Tanner Hardwood, who witnessed the accident.

Officials told WCNC, that an ultralight experimental plane was involved in the crash. Brown was the only person on-board during the crash, according to officials.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is now investigating the crash.
