CHARLOTTE, N.C. – For Memorial Day a local soldier decided to surprise his fiancee by coming home earlier than expected.
Specialist Jamaal Andrews wrote to NewsChannel 36 and asked us to share in his surprise. Here’s what he wrote:
“My name is Specialist Jamaal Andrews and I have just returned to Ft. Carson, Co from Kandahar, Afghanistan. I'm planning on surprising my fiancee , Nicole, who lives and works in Charlotte. The surprise is going to take place Sunday afternoon sometime between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., most likely at Strike City in uptown. I thought this being Memorial Day weekend someone may want to cover this reunion.”
His fiancee was anticipating that he'd leave Afghanistan on May 30.
Specialist Andrews worked with Nicole’s best friend to coordinate the surprise at Strike City. He’s in Charlotte for four days, then he’s headed back overseas for training.
He tells NewsChannel 36, in a few months he plans to come back to Charlotte for good.
