CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Police have charged two men after an armed robbery and murder attempt.

Michael Patrick, 22, and Abner Hintzen, 34, were in the midst of robbing a man on Lodge South Circle; authorities said the victim was on his way to work.

According to authorities, a second person -- who just happened to be walking by -- stumbled upon the robbery in progress. When they realized what was unfolding, they took off running.

Police said that man was shot in his back, and is now paralyzed.  It was not clear which suspect fired the shots.

Hintzen and Patrick are now facing multiple charges including armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.
