CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating a sexual assault that occurred on a James Martin Middle School bus.
Officers say the 14-year-old suspect allegedly threatened to get a gun and come back for the victim and her brother.
At least six students witnessed the assault but it's not clear if any of them heard the alleged threat.
The 14-year-old suspect was arrested.
"When I heard about it, I was like, 'That is somebody I know,'" said Rondarius Moore, a student at James Martin Middle. "I was surprised when they said it because it don't look like nothing that he would do."
Police say the suspect fondled the 13-year-old girl near the 6500 block of Old Stateville Road.
The school bus was taking students home for the day.
"Evidently it is affecting her and if it's affecting her it's affecting us and we're just trying to find a way to stop the situation before it goes any further," said the victim's aunt, who did not want to be identified.
Parents quickly learned about the assault and were alarmed the 14-year-old allegedly threatened to go and get a gun if the victim didn't cooperate.
"I'm really surprised and scared, too," said parent Candy Galdamez. "My little girl, she's in sixth grade."
The district won't get into specifics about any student, but NewsChannel 36 has learned that the 14-year-old is being disciplined.
Police are trying to determine if he had access to a weapon.
