GAFFNEY, S.C. -- A fiery crash closed Interstate 85 northbound in Gaffney, S.C., early Sunday morning.
The Highway Patrol says a tanker truck slammed into a bridge abutment and burst into flames.
The driver and a passenger in the truck died.
I-85 northbound remains closed until Tuesday while crews make repairs to the bridge. There is a 6-mile detour around the bridge.
Investigators have not released the names of the victims. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
