CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Officials are trying to determine what caused shards of broken glass to rain down from a high rise building in uptown on Sunday.

NewsChannel 36 spoke with people who said broken glass from the Wells Fargo building showered down on them Sunday evening as they were gathered for a mommy blogger convention.

An officer told NewsChannel 36 it looked as though someone inside the building threw something at the window causing the glass to shatter.

There was a big hole in one of the windows near the top of the building around the 36th floor.  Whatever caused the shards of glass to fall created scary moments for dozens of people.

”We were sitting outside and we heard a ‘boom’ and 20 seconds later it was raining glass,” said Heather McDonnell.

“Heard a loud ‘boom’ and then all the glass just started raining down.  It sounded like a hail storm almost but sharper.  Then someone said, 'it's glass!' and we all ran under the umbrellas,” said Angela England.

No one was injured. A spokeswoman for Wells Fargo said they are looking into the incident.
