BOONE, N.C. – Officials are blaming the snow and high winds for power outages in four counties.

Blue Ridge Electric says they’ll have crew working around the clock until the power is restored to all of its customers.  Officials with the electric company tell NBC Charlotte the heavy snow is causing trees to fall on power lines.

“While the crews are working there are trees falling all around them. We’re on high alert,” said Renee Whitener with Blue Ridge Electric.

Officials said Friday night that 149 members in Ashe County were without power. Eighty were impacted in Watauga, 19 in Allegheny County, five in Caldwell County and three in Avery County.

The snow has packed a punch to the area snapping power poles and pushing over power lines.

Officials said their linemen will work throughout the night to get the power restored.  Anyone wishing to report an outage should call 1-800-448-2383.
