CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Charlotte Fire Department performed a difficult rescue after a tree fell on top of a car.
The incident happened in northeast Charlotte just before 5:30 p.m. on Saturday at 1301 West Rocky River Road.
According to first responders, the tree somehow pierced through the windshield, tilting the car on two wheels. The driver was trapped inside.
The unidentified woman was taken to the hospital with head injuries. Medic tells NewsChannel 36, she has potentially life threatening injuries.
The Battalion Chief on the scene says they're still trying to determine whether the windy weather had anything to do with the accident.
NewsChannel 36 has learned the city arborist was called to the scene to determine if other trees in the area are at risk of falling.
