Apple's decision to forego headphone jacks spurs on reactions

Apple's decision to forego headphone jacks on the new iPhone has spurred an interest in wireless headphones that rely on Bluetooth.

(NBC News)  Apple's decision to forego headphone jacks on the new iPhone has spurred an interest in wireless headphones that rely on Bluetooth.

"If you're really working with a budget of $100 or less and you really want bluetooth headphones your best bet is to go toward the sort of sport variety the wrap around the back of your head kind of headphones," says Sean O'Kane of The Verge.

In that category models from Jabra and Plantronics score high on battery life and water resistence for a wire-free work out, while Urban Ears offers stylish comfort and wireless controls.

Apple's new "Airpods" offer a microphone and special chip to improve connection and sound.

Samsung's Icon-X earbuds have a carrying case charger and include storage for phone-free listening.

"If you're looking for something really big that goes over or on your ears, you want to probably look at ones that start at $200, and they're going to go up to about $400," O'Kane says.

Beats, Bose and Sennheiser are top performers in that headphone category.
