Anheuser-Busch challenges NC brewery's trademark

A brewer in the Tar Heel State is faced with a challenge from one of the country’s best known brewers.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports Natty Greene’s Brewing Co. attempted to trademark “Natty Greene’s” last summer. The beer is reportedly named for Nathaniel Greene, a Revolutionary War general, which Greensboro is named for.

Anheuser-Busch, the maker of Natural Light, filed to stop the trademark this week. Its version is often known as “Natty Light” and has been sold since the 90s.

NBC Charlotte’s news partner Asheville Citizen-Times reported last month that beer is a driving force of North Carolina tourism lately. Crowds are especially flocking toward the mountains for a taste and it's driving up business for local brewers.
