CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The 'World's Hottest Burrito' is here, and it's only in Charlotte.
Charlotte-based Salsarita's announced Monday they've teamed up with Fort Mill-based PuckerButt Pepper Company to create the world's hottest burrito. PuckerButt Pepper's Smokin' Ed's Carolina Reaper was recently named the 'World's Hottest Pepper' by the Guinness Book of World Records.
Starting today, Monday, February 24, 11 Charlotte-area restaurants will carry the spicy new burrito as a test run for the company. Charlotteans have only six weeks to give it a try.
“When we heard the world’s hottest chile pepper was grown right here in the Carolinas, we knew we needed to team up with PuckerButt for a hot new menu item,” said Yanira Castro, Director of Marketing for Salsarita’s Fresh Cantina. “We expect the World’s Hottest Burrito will be an instant favorite for those who can handle the heat.”
The “World’s Hottest Burrito” contains freshly grilled chicken, black beans, rice, Pueblo Corn Salsa, tomatoes, cilantro and just one teaspoon of Smokin’ Ed’s Carolina Reaper® pepper mash.
Not only will purchasing the World's Hottest Burrito take your tastebuds for a fiery spin, but half of the money from sales will benefit Dove's Nest, the Charlotte Rescue Mission's charity initiative that aims to motivate at-risk women to make major life changes.
The World's Hottest Burrito will set you back $12.99.
Guests that purchase the World’s Hottest Burrito and post a video of themselves eating it on social media and tag @Salsaritas and include #WorldsHottestBurrito will receive a free limited edition t-shirt from Salsarita’s.
