CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The golden arches could be a golden opportunity for hundreds of workers in the Charlotte area.
Kewanna Jones ran into the McDonald's on Fairview Road looking to grab a quick bite for her two children, but she may walk out with more than a couple of Happy Meals.
Local McDonald's locations are hiring 375 new employees as part of a national hiring day event. Across the country, more than 50,000 new employees will be hired during the Tuesday event.
"So far we've got 156 interviews already," said Chuck Kelly, store manager of the McDonald's in the Rivergate Shopping Center.
McDonald's typically attracts teens looking for summer work around this time of year. The restaurant is also attracting adults who are turning to the fast food giant in these tough financial times.
"It's hard on everybody," said Jones.
She recently moved to the area from Indiana and has been out of work for a year. She is also a caterer and sells cakes and pies, but could use some extra money.
"It takes money to make money," she said. "I've been having trouble getting a job."
For Jones, Tuesday is about a chance.
"Hopefully they'll give me a call and hopefully things will work out," she said with a smile.
