MOORESVILLE, N.C. -- There's a huge backlash against a Mooresville cafe after the owner told local police officers they weren't welcome to dine.
Now, the cafe is now trying to make amends.
The incident happened Wednesday during lunch and caused a big backlash on social media against Isy Bell's Cafe, which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner on North Main Street in Mooresville.
The owner of the establishment Isy Bell's cafe apologized to the detectives on Thursday morning.
A Facebook post by one of the officers asked to leave got a lot of reaction.
Mooresville Police Detective Jamie Quinn, saying "Unbelievable!!! Me and my fellow co-workers were asked to leave Isy Bell's restaurant today by the owner BECAUSE WE ARE POLICE OFFICERS!"
The post prompted a series of posts from friends and strangers, saying they'll never go to the cafe again if they've been there before, or never go as a first timer, due to the apparent disrespect shown to the cops.
Some even went on Trip Advisor, posting bad reviews about the restaurant.
NBC Charlotte showed Detective Quinn's post to some Isy Bell Cafe regulars.
They like the food, the service and the prices, but say if it happened as detective Quinn says in is post, then the owner was out of line and deserves the backlash.
Customer Pam Bostian says, "I would hate to think that really happened here, but if it did, it's a shame. I would want to know why."
Bostian is a regular customer, but says that could change.
"If they ran the officers out simply because they're officers or because they had a gun, then I would say they are wrong. If that were the truth, I wouldn't come back either," she expressed.
The cafe owner isn't saying how or why the incident he apologized for unfolded, or the words that were used. Neither is Detective Quinn.
NBC Charlotte doesn't know what words were said, or why the owner asked police to leave, but on Thursday, we know he is apologizing on the cafe's Facebook page, saying he is deeply sorry for the words he spoke and that police are welcome here, and he's sorry for the misunderstanding.
For some, though, it appears too little, too late and won't make a difference.
The cafe owner isn't saying how or why the incident he apologized for unfolded, or the words that were used. Neither is Detective Quinn. Both Detective Quinn and the cafe owner declined to comment.
