CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A Michigan-based logistics company is opening their North American headquarters in Charlotte, creating more than 200 jobs in Charlotte, the company announced Tuesday afternoon.

XPO Logistics Inc. will add 200 jobs in accounting, finance, human resources, internet technology, brokerage and carrier procurement and operations, the company said.

The average salary will be nearly $57,000 per year, several thousand dollars higher than the Mecklenburg County average.

The company said it is still discussing lease options for office space but confirmed they are hoping to move to already existing space in Ballantyne.

“Were negotiating leases in Ballantyne because of the attractiveness for workers,” said COO Sean Fernandez.  “The facility we looked at is top notch…our people will enjoy coming to work.”

“This announcement clearly strengthens Charlotte’s reputation as a distribution hub,” said Charlotte mayor Anthony Foxx in a statement.

North Carolina Governor Bev Perdue and other city and county officials were on hand in uptown Charlotte during the announcement.

XPO Logistics Inc. provides freight transportation services to offer expedited services via ground, sea and air.
