COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) -- The South Carolina lumber company Canfor Southern Pine is adding a second shift with 50 new jobs at its Darlington site.
The president of the firm's southern operations Douglas Warstler says the Darlington operation is being upgraded through an $8 million investment. Warstler says the expansion is prompted by increased global demand for Southern yellow pine lumber.
The Darlington facility has 84 employees and makes yellow pine dimension lumber for the construction industry.
The expansion is expected to be completed by the third quarter of next year. The firm's southern operations are based in Myrtle Beach.
Canfor operates 28 manufacturing locations in the southeastern United States and Canada, including facilities in Conway, Camden and Darlington. The company employs nearly 600 people in South Carolina.
