CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- The Democratic National Convention last year in Charlotte hasn't led to a rush of new business for the city's convention center, but local hotels are having a good year anyway.

Charlotte Observer reports (http://bit.ly/1kwnMhe ) that Mecklenburg County's hotels are on pace to generate higher revenues this year than in 2012, when Charlotte was the center of American politics for a week.

But last year's DNC didn't raise Charlotte to a new level in the convention business.

The Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority has booked 36 events in the city's Convention Center In the 14 months since the Democrats met in the Queen City. Those events are expected to sell about 139,000 hotel room nights.

The Convention Center usually generates enough business each year to book about 150,000 hotel room nights.
