GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) -- The president and CEO of Tanger Factory Outlet Centers is pledging $7.5 million for a performing arts center in Greensboro if supporters raise $35 million from private sources this year.
The pledge comes from Steven Tanger, not from the company.
The plan calls for the $60 million facility to be named the Steven Tanger Center for the Performing Arts.
The Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro revealed the name and gift Monday.
More than $28 million has been raised from private sources. Fundraisers increased their goal to $35 million as a result of Tanger's pledge.
Greensboro plans to provide $30 million for the project, with the money coming from parking fees, a user fee on tickets and hotel taxes.
The opening is expected in March 2016.
