CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Penguin restaurant will reopen in the Plaza Midwood neighborhood next weekend.
The restaurant closed in October to undergo renovations and transfer management.
It will reopen as on Saturday, Jan. 15, at 11 a.m. with live music, giveaways and its famous fried pickles.
The restaurant is now operated by Big Game Brands, a Charlotte-based company that is hoping to franchise the Penguin throughout the U.S.
"Over the next few years, even more people will have the chance to enjoy these classic local dishes through the growth of the Penguin brand to other cities," owner Martin Sprock said in a news release.
The change in management prompted uproar from loyal customers, who disagreed with the decision. Some Facebook posts asked people to boycott the restaurant.
