CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) -- North Carolina's flagship public university is seeing a change at the top.

Holden Thorp's last day as chancellor of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is Sunday. Carol Folt takes over on Monday. The former Dartmouth College interim president is getting $520,000 a year plus benefits.

School spokeswoman Karen Moon says Thorp's family this week cleared out of the campus home provided to its chancellors. Thorp also cleaned out his office and headed to California for a committee meeting on promoting a safety in academic laboratory research.

Thorp is moving to St. Louis to become provost at Washington University.

Thorp decided to resign last year after his leadership was marred by a string of scandals involving academic fraud, improper travel spending by fundraisers and special treatment for athletes.
