CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- US Airways flight attendants have begun a strike vote, saying they need more money and protections in their ongoing battle for a new contract.

The vote does not mean a strike is imminent but is meant to back negotiators as they attempt to return to the bargaining table–and show what US Airways flight attendants are willing to do if necessary.

Right now the two sides are about $13 apart per hour on pay.

Both sides would have to go through additional mediation before a strike would be possible.

A strike strategy video called “Chaos” is something flight attendants are urged to watch.

Chaos stands for “Creating Havoc Around Our System” about strike tactics flight attendants could employ – if it gets to that point.

Strike voting instructions and details were mailed to all US Airways flight attendants this week.
