Chipotle burritos may be falling from the sky soon. An experiment launched by Project Wing will be testing burrito-delivery-by-drone at Virginia Tech, according to Bloomberg.
While it may be a college student's dream come true, the experiment will be one of the most significant Federal Aviation Administration's approved ventures. If successful, other companies hope to incorporate drone deliveries into their shipping routines. Bloomberg reports Amazon has already begun a round of similar trials in the United Kingdom.
"The experimental service, to begin this month and last just a few weeks, is a test by Project Wing, a unit of Google's parent company Alphabet Inc.," Bloomberg reports.
The drones will be, "self-guided hybrids that can fly like a plane or hover like a helicopter," and they will, "make deliveries from a Chipotle food truck to assess the accuracy of navigation systems and how people respond," Bloomberg says.
Virginia Tech President, Timothy Sands, said the school agreed to the project in efforts to become a leader in new transportation technology.
