Common mistakes that can ruin Thanksgiving

Each year hundreds of preventable accidents take place cooking that Thanksgiving feast.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Thanksgiving holiday tends to get Americans all fired up-- sometimes literally.

Each year, hundreds of preventable accidents take place cooking that Thanksgiving feast.

A fire destroyed Ojetta Prince’s kitchen a few years ago. Someone forgot about the pan of burning grease on the stove.

Firefighters say cooking is the leading cause of house fires, but if you catch it early there are ways to stop the spread.

Also topping the list: turkey frying failures. Using a frozen turkey and overfilling your pot with oil doesn’t have a happy ending.

Finally once you’ve finished stuffing your belly with all that good food, make sure you’re not sending your left overs down the drain.

The Friday after Thanksgiving is the busiest day of the year for plumbers.
