SALISBURY, N.C. – It’s a taste as iconic as Carolina barbecue.
Cheerwine, the one-of-a-kind, cherry-flavored soft drink that’s called North Carolina home, is celebrating its 100th birthday.
As part of the celebration, Cheerwine is inviting its fans to take part in the classic drink’s birthplace and hometown of Salisbury.
“We have the best fans around, and we can’t thank them enough for ‘spreading the cheer’ for generations by introducing Cheerwine to their friends and family,” said Joy Harper, head of marketing for Cheerwine and the great-great-granddaughter of Cheerwine’s founder. “This party is a celebration of our loyal fans, our home state and all of the people who’ve helped make Cheerwine the iconic beverage it is today.”
On Saturday, May 20, Cheerwine’s Centennial Celebration will be held in downtown Salisbury. And the festivities are straight out of a North Carolina how-to guide.
Activities include the People’s Choice Barbecue competition, with five barbecue establishments competing for the top billing, as well as food from Cheerwine’s partners, including hot Krispy Kreme doughnuts, Bojangles’ fried chicken, and special King of Pops Cheerwine-flavored popsicles.
The family-friendly party will have magicians, jugglers, and plenty of fun games for kids of all ages.
And most importantly, don’t forget the free Cheerwine.
