Racing roots celebrated at 34th annual Race City Festival

Race week in the Charlotte area kicks off this weekend, and the fun isn't limited to the track.

MOORESVILLE, N.C. – Race week in the Charlotte area kicks off this weekend, and the fun isn’t limited to the track.

There are plenty of events taking place around the region such as the Race City Festival in Mooresville Saturday.

More than 250 vendors and 100 businesses opened on Main Street in downtown “Race City USA” for the day. In its 34th year, the festival celebrates the city’s racing roots and the sport’s important place in the local economy.

“We have 50 total race teams right here in the Mooresville area and it’s one of those that has organically grown up through Mooresville and this area, which is one reason we have the walk of fame, where every fall, we dedicate three of four different plaques to a racing legend,” said Kirk Ballard with the Mooresville Chamber of Commerce.

If you missed Saturday’s festival, there’s a lot going on around the speedway this week. And of course, Circle K Speed Street in uptown starting Thursday.
