CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Just because a supplement tells you it'll help you shed pounds, doesn't necessarily mean it's good for you.
The Better Business Bureau has issued a nationwide warning about HCG (human chorionic gonadotropin) Xtreme weight loss drugs that come in oral drops, pellets and sprays. The FDA has approved the drug to treat female infertility, not weight loss, and it can only be prescribed by a doctor.
Some HCG manufacturers claim the drug can help you shed 20 to 30 pounds in 30 to 40 days. But the Food and Drug Administration and the Federal Trade Commission both have sent letters to businesses that sell HCG Xtreme, saying the drug is illegal and unsafe.
