CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- A local businessman says he walked into his office Wednesday and found pieces of shattered glass littering the floor.
"'Boom!' We hear an explosion. It sounded like a bomb literally went off in the office," said Mark Weber of the Darton Group. "It was a projectile explosion."
Weber says when he walked back into his office after lunch, his business partner's glass desk shattered. He says the sound was so loud nearby businesses thought there was a car crash outside the building.
"It was so loud and to such a degree that the ceiling tiles actually rose," Weber said.
Weber did some research on the Internet and found a number of similar incidents around the country.
"Heated glass can do this," Weber said. "Our office faces the south. My business partner's desk was baking in the sun."
Weber's business partner was not hurt. Luckily, she wasn't sitting at her desk.
"Just went you think you've seen or heard it all, you see something new," Weber said.
ConsumerAffairs.com reports hundreds of complaints of exploding glass tables. Most of the tables were in a sunroom at a home or next to a window at work.
