Free Trees & Totes: Tomorrow along Selwyn Avenue, a giant 125-year-old oak tree is being removed. To celebrate the tree’s life, tomorrow, you can pick up a free 6-to-12-inch maple tree or tote bag along Selwyn at Tranquil Court, which includes FABO café, Mellow Mushroom or Yoforia. Check out the additional information below:
Tranquil Court on Selwyn Condominiums, http://www.tranquilcourt.com 2810 Selwyn Avenue, in Myers Park, is celebrating the life of an old willow oak tree. The tree, estimated to be 125 years old, is dying a natural death, and arborists have advised that it needs to come down for public safety reason. The tree will come down on April 4th, 2012, and a new willow oak will be planted within a week.
To honor the tree, Tranquil Court is planning the following:
• Free 6” – 12” red maple tree seedlings (while supplies last), along with instructions on how to plant and care for the trees, will be available at neighborhood shops FABO Café (2820 Selwyn Ave., Suite 180), Mellow Mushroom (2820 Selwyn Ave. Suite 100) and Yoforia (2823 Selwyn Ave. Suite J).
• Artist Carlleena Person will work with children to draw nature-themed portraits on natural canvas tote bags (while supplies last) at FABO Café,11 am – 2 pm.
• Free mulch, from the willow oak, will be available on a first-come, first-served basis 1 – 4 pm. People are asked to travel east on Tranquil Avenue, on the side of Tranquil Court Condominiums, where assistance will be provided with bagging and loading the mulch.
