LAKE NORMAN, N.C. -- Local police and wildlife officers are out on the water this weekend keeping an eye out for drunk boaters.
The effort is part of a nationwide crackdown called Operation Dry Water.
Authorities say a lot of boaters get caught up in having a good time and simply forget the rules.
“Out here on the lake, 0.08 is legally intoxicated, just as it is on the highway, and it's just as dangerous," says Sergeant Barry Rowell of the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission.
Those stepped-up lake patrols will continue through Sunday night.
