CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Progress Energy customers are facing an increase in their energy bills.
The company is asking state regulators to approve a 12 percent rate hike.
For the average customer that means an extra $180 each year. Progress Energy, which is now part of Duke Energy, says it needs the money to pay for power plant upgrades to reduce pollution.
Duke Energy is also planning to request a rate hike sometime in the next few months.
