FORT MILL, S.C.-- One of Fortune's Top 100 companies in America is coming to Fort Mill and looking for employees to hire this fall.

Publix Supermarkets will open two new stores, and employ 250 people in Fort Mill and Indian Land.  It's part of a city and county effort to bring more jobs to the Fort Mill area.

"Although we went down, we've come back quicker," said Fort Mill Economic Development Council member Bayles Mack, of Fort Mill's economy.

Unemployment in York County is down from a year ago, and Mack says there have been nearly 1,800  new jobs in the area over the last two years.

Mack gave NewsChannel 36 a sneak peak of the new Publix Supermarket under construction.  He's hoping the new stores provide a strong tax base and give developers a new reason to come to the Fort Mill area.

"Food stores drive more commercial opportunities around it.  The best tax base we can get is commercial," he said.

The job fair will be held Tuesday, August 7 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Wednesday, August 8 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Holiday Inn at 503 Galleria Boulevard in Rock Hill.
