CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Rick Hendrick flew in on his helicopter just down the road from the Charlotte Motor Speedway Monday afternoon to a spot just off the still incomplete Interstate 485 near Hwy 115.
The most successful owner in NASCAR was there to tour his newest business the Hendrick Northlake Luxury Auto Mall.
“This is a labor of love,” said Hendrick. He spoke from the lobby of the Mercedes Benz dealership, one of three luxury dealerships within walking distance of each other.
“This has been thought of for more than 12 years,” he said.
There are three uniquely different manufactures that will service customers at Hendrick Northlake Luxury Auto Mall. In addition to Mercedes Benz there is also a Lexus dealership and a BMW dealership at the Auto Mall.
Hendrick, who owns car dealerships in 13 states including dealerships on Independence Boulevard in Charlotte, said this is the right time and the right place to build the auto mall.
"We had the year in the history of our company last year and our best first quarter. So I think the time is perfect for the market and the economy and just for our company in general," said Hendrick.
Hendrick points to auto sales of more than 14 million cars last year the highest number since the recession when the all time high was more than 16 million units were sold.
