UNDATED -- If you plan to shop at wholesale clubs this holiday season, here are some helpful tips that will save you time and money.
First off, unlock the secret codes. At BJ's wholesale club, if the item number ends in zero, that means the item has been discontinued and is super-discounted.
At Costco, the price of discounted items normally ends with a 7.
Sam's Club often adds a "C" to the price, which is a clue that it's been slashed.
Second rule: Know your designer labels. Oftentimes deals on items from Gucci, Juicy and Movado beat department store prices.
Rule three: Know your unit pricing. Just because it's in bulk doesn't mean it's cheaper.
Rule four: Don't rule out manufacturer coupons. BJ's managers say they're the only wholesale company that takes them.
Rule five: Shop with a friend. Buy in bulk and split up those larges packages of perishable items like meat and produce.
Rule six: Shop with a list and stick with it. Don't be an impulse shopper. You'll pay for it.
