CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Trader Joe's has announced a food recall for an item that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The supplier who manufactures "Trader Joe's Butter Chicken with Basmati Rice" alerted the retailer of the possible contamination for the item that's sold in stores in both North and South Carolina.

The item can be identified by the production date that reads "305 12".

Trader Joe's has removed the product from the shelves and says they've all been destroyed.

Customers who've purchased the item are urged not to consumer it, and to dispose of it or return it to the store for a full refund.

According to EMedicine.com, Listeria monocytogenes is a food-borne organism that's associated with abortion and encephalitis in sheep and cattle. The most common symptomatic manifestations are diarrhea, mild fever, nausea and vomiting.

If you have any questions, customers may contact Trader Joe's Customer Relations at (626) 599-3817.
