RICHLAND COUNTY, SC - (WLTX) -- Officials from the Richland County Coroner's Office have released the name of the person that died as a result of Hurricane Matthew.
Officials say 66-year-old David Outlaw was located Saturday just before 8:00 a.m. outside of National Health Care on Parklane Road where he was a resident. He was found pinned underneath his wheelchair face down in standing water as a result of the heavy rains in the area.
Officials say Outlaw was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10:48 a.m. Autopsy results show that he died from asphyxiation due to drowning after falling out of his electric wheelchair.
This incident remains under investigation by The Richland County Sheriff's Department and the Richland County Coroner's Office.
